Hurihia to aroaro ki

It’s Maori language week here in Aotearoa – so I thought I’d share my favourite Maori proverb. “Hurihia to aroaro ki te ra tukuna to atarangi kia taka ki muri i a koe – turn your face to the sun and the shadows will fall behind you”. Which I think is spot on considering the week I’ve had.

Hi! I’ve traveled to New Zealand in 2003 and could not have had a more amazing experience with the Maori culture and New Zealand people. Since then, I have held this New Zealand proverb close to my heart and am wondering where you got this translation into the native language? Any help you have would be appreciated; I am looking to add it to a tattoo I have and of course want to make sure I have it right. Thank you so much!
