I felt a little nervous publishing my last post. It felt slightly embarrassing not having a clear and simple answer to the question ‘what do you do for a living?’. So it came as a huge relief to get such a positive response from my Play to Win support crew. Hearing they felt the same made me realise I’m not alone and there’s certainly no reason to feel embarrassed.
It’s a theme that seems to have carried through my weekend. I was in Wellington yesterday for the charity work I do with Supporting Families in Mental Illness – an organisation that knows too well the anxiety and pain that comes from being different. It’s also an organisation that understands the strength and resilience shared experience can offer.
After all, there is no force stronger than the power of like minds. And there’s no force more destructive than the isolation of the opposite. The people we surround ourselves with help create our reality. They influence what we think is ‘normal’ and shape what we think possible. I feel so lucky to have found like minds, like mine.
